Ponderings
These magnificent birds are well trained to return safely to their mate awaiting them at their loft.
No, they have to be release outside where they can fly safely back to their home loft.
The doves will be placed in a decorative basket a short distance from the crowd. At the designated time within your service the release ceremony will begin. Most commonly a musical is played, a song is sung or poetry is read. Once that is complete, yourself, a friend or family members (depending on the event) will open and release the dove or doves into flight, a second person will be designated to release the remaining doves to join the awaiting doves in flight.
We discourage the thought of hand releasing for the reason that untrained hands can unintentionally injure the birds. We have small one-bird baskets that can be held at the time of release. However, if this is of the utmost importance to you, we will set up additional time prior to the ceremony to briefly train you in the proper techniques of bird handling.
In order to insure the safety of our birds, the release must take place one hour before sunset to give the birds time to make it home safely before dark.
The release ceremony usually takes 5 to 10 minutes at the most. This may vary depending on the package you choose and the music or poetry that accompanies the release.
